The Snow Joe iON18SB-HYBRID Single-Stage Snow Blower is a unique, environment–friendly electric snow blower. As a hybrid, you have two types of snow blowers in one machine; a 40 Volt 4AH battery–powered snow blower and a 13.5 Amp corded electric snow blower.
It functions the same as the battery–powered Snow Joe iON18SB single-stage snow blower but with the added advantage of the ability to switch to a powerful electric corded snow blower too. It is also heavier than the battery-operated snow blower, which is to the operator’s benefit when steering the snow blower over uneven terrain or in wet snow. The hybrid snow blower weighs 42 pounds compared to the 32 pounds of the cordless snow thrower. It’s not too heavy to comfortably transport to the shed or garage for storing.
If you prefer an environment–friendly snow blower with power, but your driveway is too long for the extension cord, the hybrid snow blower is a good pick. It switches to a cordless snow blower by pushing the button on the inside of the handlebar. When you’re ready to switch back to corded electric, push the button on the outside of the handlebar.
The cordless snow blower is ideal for quick clearing of the driveway or getting rid of a few inches of snow. When you need more power, then the 13,5 Amp brushless motor efficiently clears the deeper snow. The versatility of the hybrid accommodates the different depth and types of snow. The corded gives more power, but the cordless gives you the distance beyond the cord length.
The 40 Volt lithium-ion rechargeable battery with EcoSharp technology, doesn’t fade when discharging and gives about 50 minutes of power. The battery takes about 2 hours to charge. If you don’t want to wait for the battery to charge, then finish clearing the snow by plugging the snow blower in and transforming it to a corded snow blower.
A heavy-duty steel auger with its two rubber blades moves 500 pounds of snow per minute. The 18-inch clearing width cuts a wide enough path but isn’t too cumbersome for patios or decks. As a single-stage snow blower, it’s best to clear snow from paved surfaces.
The snow blower moves up to 8 inches of light, fluffy snow. The 180-degree auto-rotate directional chute has a 20–feet throwing distance which is far enough from the driveway and walkways without dumping the snow in the neighbor’s yard.
You may be tempted to clear snow at night because of the low noise level. The two 3-Watt LED headlights to make it possible, brightening the clearing path for you.
Eight–inch all-terrain wheels maximize maneuverability over rough terrain. It supports the auger-assisted drive system to push the snow blower forward.
