Chen Yin, EY Entrepreneur of the year 2016 China winner of the industrial products category, is also the founder of Changzhou Globe Tools Co., Ltd., the parent company of Greenworks. Globe Tools was founded in 2002 and Greenworks Tools in 2007.
Globes Tools U.S headquarters are in Mooresville, North Carolina, a 40,00 sq. ft. office building in the historic Mooresville Cotton Mills complex. All manufacturing and the seven independent business units are in Zhonglou Economy Development Zone in Changzhou, China. International branch offices in the USA, Canada, Shangai, and Hong Kong focus on R&D logistics, marketing, and after-sales services for major North American retailers.
As an industry leader in lithium-ion technology and outdoor power equipment, the Globe Tools Group launched under the Greenworks brand, the first battery-powered lawnmower in US and Canada in 2009. Chen Yin believes the speed of innovation is the key to Greenworks’ success.
A year later Greenworks introduced corded outdoor power equipment. The products were designed for residential consumers who were looking for lawnmowers and outdoor tools that had power but without the noise, fumes, and hassles of gas powered equipment.
In 2011 the G-24-volt line battery powered tools gave consumers the versatility to use the same lithium-ion battery on indoor hand tools and outdoor power equipment. The same year they launched an electric pressure washer at Lowe’s Home Improvement with PSI levels comparable to the gas models.
Two years later the first dual blade battery powered cordless lawnmower was introduced to the market. The G-MAX 40-volt battery power tools were also launched in 2013.
December 2014 brought the solution to homeowners who needed the power for heavy-duty yard tasks but didn’t want the fumes and noise of gas-powered equipment. Greenworks introduced the 80-Volt product range.
In April 2016 Greenworks Commercial launched the 82-volt commercial grade products for professional landscapers. In May STIHL, a German group, invested in Globe Tools Group creating a partnership in the emerging battery powered OPE (outdoor power equipment) industry. The same year the 60-volt lithium-ion product line was launched filling the gap in the 24, 40 and 80-volt product lines.
During February 2017 Greenworks European headquarters relocated to Malmo, Sweden to serve the European, Middle East and Asian markets. In April the E-commerce office serving online retail partners opened in Seattle, Washington.
Greenworks started with 100 employees. Today there are over 5000 employees globally with 400 engineers developing new products. Their two major brands are Greenworks Commercial and Greenworks Elite, a product line exclusively for the Independent Dealer channel. The combination of Greenworks Elite, the 82-volt Commercial line, and the Zero Turn Mowers offers the combination of high quality, green, high-powered cordless OPE solutions.
Today most power tool companies embrace the trend introduced by Greenworks 10 years ago. As leaders of battery powered hand-held, walk-behind, and ride-on equipment they cover whole ranges of equipment for DIY homeowners and professional landscapers.
Greenworks backs most of its products with a 4-year warranty, 1-year for lithium batteries and chargers, 90-days commercial use and 1-year for power washers and air compressors.
